Ultrarunner Joasia Zakrzewski has been disqualified from the GB Ultras Manchester to Liverpool 50-mile race – which she finished third in – for using a car for part of the route.

The 47-year-old GP from Dumfries, Scotland, is believed to have travelled 2.5 miles by car during the event on 7 April after GPX mapping data revealed that she had covered a mile in just 1 minute 40 seconds.

Wayne Drinkwater, race director of GB Ultras, received information after the event that Zakrzewski had gained an 'competitive advantage during a section of the event' and the matter was then investigated.
