On Monday 4 January, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson put England back into a national lockdown, instructing the nation to stay at home. Pacing the first-ever women’s sub-4 mile attempt but should limit leaving your home for exercise to once per day. You should also not travel outside your local area when running.

Following the lockdown announcement, England Athletics have in turn put guidelines in place for athletics and running. The guidelines state that until further notice:

Under the government guidelines, elite sport is able to continue in line with the strict protocols in place. Outdoor sport for disabled people can also continue.

While virtual coaching and competitions can still go ahead, England Athletics confirmed they are seeking clarity from the Government on 1:1 coaching sessions.

In a statement on their website, England Athletics said, ‘We believe athletics and running play a vital role in improving the physical and mental health and wellbeing of participants of all ages and abilities and remain in constant dialogue with the UK Government to ensure a full, and safe, return to the sport as soon as possible.’
