20-year-old Barbados runner Jonathan Jones crossed the finish line after running a 400m PB at the IAAF Monaco Diamond League, only to realise he hadn’t heard the false start gun.
Jones ran the 400m in 44.64, only to raise his arms in surprise as he crossed the finish line and saw all of his competitors at the start line. Jones was running in the outer lane, and continued to run alongside two of his competitors after he didn’t hear the false start gun.
Jones didn’t get an official time, or restart the race. Steven Gardiner of the Bahamas won the race, in a time of 44:51.
