It might be as few years old now, but if you’re just starting out and only want to pay just over £100, the Forerunner 55 fits the bill. It comes with all the basics, including built-in GPS and optical heart rate monitoring, plus 20 hours’ GPS run time on a single charge and a general usage battery life that’ll get most runners through at least a week’s training.

Unsurprisingly, you don’t get the full suite of training features here, or a shiny AMOLED display, but the Forerunner 55 still has enough tools to cater for a wide range of running needs, with plenty of features geared towards the less experienced.

Again, the 255 is a few years old now (succeeded by the 265 and 570), but it contains many of the same features: heart rate, Garmin Pay, maps and advanced performance metrics. Battery life is decent (14 days in smartwatch mode) and there's multisport modes for triathletes. Compared with the newer version, though, there's no AMOLED screen. But if this isn't a dealbreaker, this is a great steal.

Having launched last year, the Forerunner 165 doesn't go on sale often so this is a rare opportunity to make a saving. The watch takes most of the more useful tools and features you find on Garmin’s premium watches and distils them into a more compact, more basic, somewhat cheaper model with a killer bright AMOLED display.

This is the next gen up from the (now discontinued) Forerunner 245, containing many of the same features: heart rate, Garmin Pay, maps and advanced performance metrics. But it also provides double the battery life (14 days in smartwatch mode vs 7 on the 245) and multisports modes for triathletes. A great mid-range option.

The Fenix 8 is arguably the most comprehensive multi-sport watch on the market. If Garmin has a tool for it, it’s on this watch. You get the full suite of Garmin’s run tracking, training, recovery, navigation and health tools, including everything from training effect, training load and performance condition, to HRV, Body Battery, recovery time, VO2 Max Score an expert-approved running watch for a lot less this Prime Day.

Plus, it has progress-charting readouts like Hill Score (how good you are on the ups) and Endurance Score (how good you are at going long). There’s military-style multi-band GPS, designed to improve GPS accuracy in areas where regular signals can struggle.

The Pro version of the Fenix 7 offers all the same benefits as the standard Fenix 7 models but comes with enhanced features such as upgraded GPS tracking, heart-rate monitoring, LED flashlights and software capabilities.

Featuring solar charging, 14-days battery life, advanced training features and a built-in flashlight, the Fenix 7S Pro Solar can handle pretty much anything you throw at it.

This is an awesome deal on a top GPS watch. Made for the hardcore adventurer, it comes with solar charging for those trips off-grid and is water-rated to 100 metres and constructed to U.S. military standard for thermal, shock and water resistance. There's all the usual tracking features, too, stress monitoring and sleep tracking.

After the latest and greatest Venu? The V3 has a lot of the same features as the V2, but sleep tracking has had a real overhaul. Not only does the Venu 3 give you a sleep score, but it also offers personalised tips on how much sleep you need and how you can improve. Also new for the Venu 3 is improved body battery insights and and morning report and evening summary alerts, which pop up at the beginning and end of the day.

If you want a running watch that can handle more extreme excursions, the Garmin Instinct 3 AMOLED is worth considering. It’s waterproof to 100m, built to military standards for thermal and shock resistance, and has a scratch-resistant display and polymer-toughened case. And the best bit? It’s much more affordable than other Garmin models with similar specs.

It boasts an impressive suit of run-specific tracking, training and recovery tools, including VO2 Max estimates, training status, training load, post-run training effect readings and recovery time recommendations. For health and wellness, there’s Body Battery, Sleep Score, Advanced Sleep Reports, Menstrual Cycle Tracking and Stress Tracking. You’re only really missing Hill Score and Endurance Score from the pricier Garmin watches.

The Epix Pro is a watch for front-of-the-pack runners who want all of the bells and whistles of Garmin's premium adventure watches without compromising on a super sharp display and sleek design. It's got a host of advanced training features on top of Garmin’s usual 24/7 health and wellness monitoring, plus a built-in LED flashlight for training in the dark and 30 new preloaded sport activities.

Garmin's Vivoactive 5 is the perfect hyrbid of exercise tracker and standard smartwatch, and a more affordable alternative to the Venu 3 — especially at a discount. It boasts on-board GPS and heart rate monitoring (although it's not as accurate as more premium models), plenty of health tracking features, and 30 preloaded GPS and indoor sports.
