Updated: 21 January 2025 UK marathon calendar, this seafront 26.2-miler is a bucket list run for many and is great for first-timers and experienced runners alike. The event, which started in 2010, attracts huge numbers every year and is always a sell-out. It’s easy to see why, too – the spring-time race is a favourite among those who missed out on a spot in the London Marathon ballot. But Brighton is much more than a consolation prize: a recently updated course mixes the city centre sights and the seaside, and there’s great support guaranteed from the first mile to the last.
From entering to crossing the Hove Lawn finish line, here’s everything you need to know about the 2025 Brighton Marathon.
When is the 2025 Brighton Marathon?
This year’s Brighton Marathon will take place on Sunday 6 April.
What time does the Brighton Marathon start?
Runners World, Part of the Hearst UK Wellbeing Network.
How much does the Brighton Marathon cost?
General entries to this year’s Brighton Marathon are now sold out. There are charity places still available. However, you’ll have to join the waitlist for most.
What is the Brighton Marathon course?
The 2025 Brighton Marathon course is yet to be officially confirmed, but runners are in for an undulating outing if last year’s route is anything to go by. Starting in Preston Park, participants tackle the city’s notorious ascents and descents as they make their way down to the domes and minarets of the iconic Royal Pavillion before heading towards the Marina. From here, the course mainly hugs the shoreline, performing a number of out-and-backs as it ferries runners past landmarks like the Brighton Pier, West Pier and the i360, before finishing on the beach hut-flanked Hove Lawns.
Those who haven’t done Brighton since 2022 might be tempted back, too, with the quiet Shoreham Port power station section of the course between miles 20-23 now replaced by more miles in the crowd-packed streets of Hove instead.
How do I get to the Brighton Marathon start line?
The Brighton Marathon begins in the north of the city in leafy Preston Park. In 2024, road closures were in place across the Brighton from 6am, so if you’re staying in the area, the easiest way to access the start line is most likely on foot. More information is coming soon for the 2025 race, though, so be sure to check back here.
Can I wear headphones during the Brighton Marathon?
Historically, Brighton Marathon organisers had recommended that runners don’t wear headphones due to safety reasons, but there is nothing to suggest that they will actively prevent participants from wearing them at the 2025 event. If you are intent on wearing headphones, consider the bone-conducting kind, which also allow in ambient sound, so you’re more aware of what’s going on around you.
How do I get my bib number?
Event packs containing your bib number, kitbag and baggage label will be delivered in the post and should arrive in plenty of time before race day. Organisers are keen to point out that they aren’t available to collect on race day.
Is there a bag drop at the Brighton Marathon?
A free bag drop will be available at the 2025 Brighton Marathon. Each participant will receive a reusable, clear, drawstring kitbag and baggage label in their event pack, and these must be used if you want to use the bag drop service. The bags themselves measure 55cm by 45cm and are big enough for a pair of shoes and change of clothes.
