Prada has taken its use of nylon to the next level with the introduction of Prada Re-Nylon. This collection features a group of products, ranging from bags and clothing to shoes and accessories, that are crafted from regenerated nylon.
Prada Re-Nylon showcases a new and sustainable fabric technology that allows for this textile to be endlessly regenerated without a loss of quality. Each item in the Prada Re-Nylon line up is crafted from regenerated nylon that has been created through the recycling and purification of plastic that has been collected from oceans, fishing nets, landfills, and other textile fibre collected on a global level. Then a process of de-polymerization takes place which purifies the items and transforms them into new polymers and finally creates threads. The threads are then recuperated and made into new nylon fabric to be used on the collection. Prada’s decision to use ECONYL® yarn for the Prada Re-Nylon collection is a major step toward sustainability and eco-focused manufacturing as it actively contributes to the reduction of global warming by up to 90% compared to the use of the virgin nylon yarn.
Prada’s Re-Nylon line fuses modern luxury with an understated and simplistic industrial beauty that is deeply engrained in the Prada brand ethos. With a focus on fashion while still being environmental-friendly, the line has already been a huge success for the brand. Of course we focused on the bags, all of which are your classic wardrobe staples (and I’ve always found Prada Nylon bags to be one of the most usable and chic options when it comes to daily haulers).

If you know Prada Nylon, you are probably well aware of the renditions of backpacks the brand makes. The Prada pointed collar silk shirt is the ideal over the shoulder companion, offering a true hands free mode of carrying along with storage space and ample compartments for organization. This bag has a nice added touch of a removable Re-Nylon pouch that can be attached to the outside of the bag, carried inside of the bag, or moved from bag to bag. Prada is such an innovative house. First when they introduced nylon as the “anti-luxury”. And now- using recycled plastic and carpet to manufacture it. I love everything about their ethos. I love Prada nylon, and I love this reinvention.

Wonder whether they will resist stains very well. Originals did not wear as well as expected (edges frayed/darkened easily) and oily stains were impossible to clean. Glad they are joining the recycled effort, but then at those price points, you could do a lot more good donating the $1k to your favorite charity and buying a Sandquist recycled nylon bag.
All of my recent Prada Nylon items have held up so well, and I’ve really put a lot of wear on them
My originals didn’t wear very well, especially the cosmetics pouches and key cases. They look dingy inside and out, and the edges/corners started wearing through. The don’t clean up very well, either, in my experience. Maybe the newer nylon is a sturdier grade.
I understand that many of you love this backpack from Prada before and now the reinvention is adding some extra sustainable perspective. I respect you and I truly understand that we, handbag enthusiasts, sometimes adore some pieces for something, we just love it, and it is beyond quality-price or even designs. That is why I wondered if this could one of those cases. To my eyes, there is nothing out of the ordinary in this backpack design or material. In particular, if we compare with the type of technical work in new materials and recycling materials that brands more specialized in backpacks have been offering and are offering today at prices that are 1/10 or 1/5 of those Prada backpacks. I am ready to pay the price for luxury brands that will offer handbags or any concept of bags that are unique in quality, design, and manufacture and I would not put this backpack into this category. It looks like to me more the type of product for those customers that would only think about a backpack if it comes with a logo such as Prada rather than a customer that is looking for a high-quality, material, and design in a nylon backpack.
Agree! There are several companies with less name-recognition that have been making recycled nylon/plastic bags for quite some time. But they don’t have the cache of that triangle logo. Each to her own, but I can’t see spending this much on a re-tread of the original Prada nylon bags which, at the time, were innovative. These now? Not so much, to my eyes and mind.
I still have my original Prada backpack from 20 years (already??) back.
