Jörg Schuft

Jörg was born in Wermelskirchen, Germany in 1971. He grew up in Witzhelden and Burscheid on the edge of the Bergisches Lande (a low mountain range). Jörg’s passion for fishing developed at a young age as a result of the various trout ponds and lakes where grew up. Once when visiting a fishing shop, Jörg met an older and very helpful fly fisher. He watched the man tie flies in this shop, who never tired of answering the many questions Jörg had. This gentlemen even spontaneously agreed to showing teach Jörg how to cast in a nearby parking lot. That was it – from that day on, Jörg’s passion for fly tying and fishing was born! |

In the absence of a suitable teacher in Jörg’s area, he began to teach himself the art of fly tying and fishing. He routinely read fly fishing literature in various languages and visited exhibitions and events, both near and far. Here, Jörg observed the more experienced fly tyers and consistently began to accumulate his own knowledge and expertise. Jörg has fished many German and international waters. In 1999/2000, while Jörg admired the beauty of salmon flies, he unfortunately lacked the sophisticated materials and resources needed to tie his own. Jörg began collecting the necessary materials wherever he could, until he finally had enough material to tie salmon flies in 2002/03. In addition to classic and modern patterns, Jörg also develops his own creations, such as the “Wuppernnymphe” and modern salmon flies. Today, fly tying and fishing is Jörg’s passion. Together with friends, Jörg developed a fly fishing group as part of his local fishing club (SAV Bayer-Leverkusen). This group now meets regularly once a month to tie and cast. Jörg is delighted to be able to pass on his expertise, advice, and hands-on experience to newcomers. |

Jörg was extremely pleased to have Bas Vershoor from Den Haag invite him along to attend a workshop with Marvin Nolte in the United States in 2006. Jörg was looking forward to participating in this workshop again, in October 2008. In 2008, Jörg was invited at the Duisburger Angelmesse in Germany as well as at the Aquafish in Friederichshafen, Germany where he will be happy to answer any questions. In 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011, Jörg was honored to be invited as a fly tyer to the EWF (Erlebniswelt Fliegenfischen). Here, people were able to watch Jörg tie, an experience that will stay with him for a very long time. Jörg is excited to be part of this year’s EWF once again. A few well-known fly tiers and fishers, who are very dear to Jörg, have stood by and supported him along the way. He wishes to expresses his utmost gratitude to them and is looking foreword to all that lies ahead. |
