Jan Kretek, from Ostrau in the Czech Republic, is a professional fly tyer and a master of the "Czech nymph." A fly fisherman since his early youth, he developed his skills on the rivers and reservoirs in his native area of Bohemia and Moravia and was, for many years, active in fly-fishing competition. In tying his fly patterns, Jan not only has command of the "classic" school of the Czech nymph, but concentrates especially on continuous development and tireless testing of new nymphs and flies in close cooperation with colleagues on the Czech competition team. The experience gained from championships on highly varied waters around the globe helps him with new inspiration and practical applications.
|
| He regularly visits and discovers new areas for fly fishing on the big rivers and lakes in the expanses of eastern Europe, from Slovakia to the Carpathians in Romania, to Hungary, the Ukraine, the Balkans, and Greece and into the mountains of Crimea on the Black Sea to the High Caucasus of Georgia. The experience gained on these expeditions and fishing trips flows directly into previously unknown fly patterns, new and creative tying materials, and innovative fly-fishing techniques, particularly the expanded range of "Czech" and "French" nymphs. Jan Kretek works regularly as a guide and fly tyer for "CORCON Craft" in the Riesengebirge (Giant Mountains) in the Czech Republic together with Martin Drosh, the several times and current world fly-fishing champion. Fly tyer Jan Kretek will be pleased to advise you about appropriate nymphs and you can see his fly-tying demonstrations at the "CORCON Craft" booth at the 2011 EWF. |
