From the Far North

"I can happily swear that, until now, no hobby and no passion has overcome me as strongly and thoroughly as fly fishing!." As a result, it is no surprise that, shortly after beginning university in Kiel in 1995, Carsten followed this passion and founded the "Kiel Fly-Tying Workshop."
Fly-fishing and fly-tying courses became major emphases and, in addition, he ties flies, working in both production and design and also as a fly tyer at numerous shows in Germany.
In 1999 and 2001 he produced two instructional films about tying flies for sea trout (sea-run browns) and salmon. A television production, "Fly Fishing in Germany," followed a year later.
Since 2004, Carsten Scharf has worked as an editor for "Rute & Rolle" ("Rod & Reel") with emphasis on fly fishing and fly tying and has supported Siegi Stümke in the establishment and growth of the magazine "Fisch & Fliege" ("Fish & Fly").
In 2005, his collection of flies for sea trout came onto the market as part of Rudi Heger's product program.
His two daughters were born during the last three years and they have hooked him deeply. Fewer flies have been tied since, but baby diapers have been continuously changed...

Carsten's fishing concentrates on the northern countries, "Fishing for salmon and sea trout remains for me one of the greatest challenges and keeps me in its grip."

At the EWF stand of "Fisch & Fliege," Carsten Scharf will tie sea-trout flies for the Baltic Sea and salmon flies for Norwegian waters.
