Rudy van Duijnhoven
I was born January 20th, 1961 and obtained my diploma as a Freelance Photographer at the Photo Trade School in Apeldoorn (NL) in 1987 and started in May 1992, after working for thirteen years at a gardening company, my own business as a freelance photographer and author. My everyday work now consists of taking pictures of products for catalogues and magazine columns, writing articles, making recordings of shows, giving workshops on fly casting and fly tying, giving fly casting demonstrations at different shows in Europe, making recordings at weddings, etc.
It was around the age of twelve that I first went fishing with some friends from school, I brought a book along as I thought it would be very boring. I never opened the book… When I was sixteen, and after reading numerous articles on fly fishing, I bought my first fly rod and got my first casting lessons in Arnhem from Ad van Lith. One year later I followed a casting course and a fly tying course given by Jos van der Wouw for Bruins Hengelsport in Boxmeer. That was what really got me started. In the early days I used to fly fish in the waters in the area of Nijmegen, I went by train to the River Kyll where I caught my first trout on the fly.

Fliegen Duijnhoven These days I will fish with the fly rod for any fish that is willing to take the fly. From roach, rudd, bream, carp, ide, sea bass, etc. in The Netherlands up to blue shark in Ireland, payara and sardinata in Venezuela, tarpon and snook on  Curaçao and St. Maarten, steelhead in British Columbia, seatrout in Denmark; the possibilities are endless. One of my firm favourites is to fish streamers for pike in autumn and winter.
Since January 1992 I am the co-ordinator fly fishing of the monthly 'BEET-Sportvissersmagazine', that is brought on the market by Vipmedia in Breda (NL). At the offices of several magazines in Holland and abroad (as well as at my own address) I have situated large stocks of slides and digital pictures, with a great many topics around sport fishing as subjects. From these publications have resulted in fishing magazines in a great number of countries including Germany, the UK and the USA.

In January of 2001 I was nominated, along with two other photographers, for the 'BEET Hengelsport Promotieprijs 2001' (BEET Angling Promotion Prize 2001), this for all the pictures I have published and work I have put into BEET since 1992. At the official opening of Visma in March, it turned out that most of the readers of BEET-Sportvissersmagazine had voted for me. I have donated the cheque worth 3000 guilders that comes with the Promotieprijs to the 'Stichting Vluchtelingenwerk Nederland' (organisation which looks after refugees in the Netherlands).
On the 'Eve of the Fly Fair', on Friday the 20th of September at the Postiljon Hotel in Zwolle, I was handed over the 'Hans P.C. de Groot Fly Fair Award' by Ad Swier. This for all the work I have done to promote fly fishing in the Netherlands and for the Fly Fair in particular.

Since January 2002 I have a close relation with Kate Blubaugh from the USA and we often work on projects or give fly casting demonstrations and lessons together.
