Jan Reniers was born on the 4th of November in Breda, a town where he still lives today. He has been active in the sport of fly fishing for nearly forty years now. Jan came into contact with fly fishing when he met Ronald Fenger at the Veerse Meer (saltwater lake in the south west of The Netherlands) on a beautiful day. |

Ronald Fenger was world champion in fly casting at that moment. Ronald taught Jan fly casting at the Veerse Meer. He learned how to tie flies from Belgium fly tiers that he met at club meetings or in private. Jan has become well known through his eel skin creations, more especially his shrimp. This shrimp, tied with eel skin, is regarded by many fly fishers around the world as a special and unique creation. Jan ties his shrimp since 1978, with eel skin since 1983. Numerous Dutch and foreign magazines have devoted articles to Jan Reniers and his flies, they can also be found in Bob Veverka’s book “Innovative Saltwater Flies”, Paul Smookler’s book “Rare and Unusual Fly Tying Materials” and more recently Thomas Vinge’s book “Havorred pa kysten II”. Jan has, over the years, fished and wetted his flies in New Zealand, America, Canada, Norway, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Germany and Luxemburg. He likes to bring over his knowledge to other people, which is why he is invited regularly to meetings of fly fishing clubs and fly fishing fairs. |
